Resignation: Farewell German Seed Alliance, Goodbye German Agribusiness Alliance

The Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine means a fundamental paradigm shift for us. None of us thought it possible that in our GAA area could be a criminal breach of international law, death, suffering and misery for the Ukrainian people and a high level of disinformation, lies and closures towards the people of Russia. I have already expressed my disgust and contempt for Russian President Putin. Unfortunately, there is no hope that there will be a political upheaval in Russia in the short or medium term.

Considering this, it is only logical and consistent for me to resign from my honorary position as co-chair of the German Agribusiness Alliance. I cannot reconcile with my own moral concepts and my conscience that I should continue to play a leading role in maintaining economic relations with Russia. Because of the great debt that the Putin administration must take on, it is impossible for me to continue to be in contact with Russian government representatives as a Russia spokesman for German agriculture. While there may be good reasons to continue doing business in Russia, unfortunately as a person with this government I cannot advocate for it. I hope you understand. In this context, I will also terminate my employment at German Seed Alliance GmbH.

I am sorry that I made this decision at such short notice before the general meeting on March 30th, 2022. It was very difficult for me to take this step, because we have achieved a lot together in the GAA over the past 6 years and have united and strengthened the organization. If desired by the members, I am available for the transition until the election of a successor to accompany and moderate the GAA’s positioning process on Russia and to train the new chairperson.

I wish that the war will end and that we will return to peace. As a certified freelance organizational consultant and coach, I will now be able to fully concentrate on supporting entrepreneurs and organizations when they change their strategic compass, when they want to grow or open new markets. If you recommend me for this, I would be very happy. I would like to thank you for your trust in me over the last 6 years and I hope that we will meet again on another business occasion or simply remain in friendly contact.

All the best for you!

Yours Torsten Spill
